Twitter/X stores media in ways that surprise people. Knowing the quirks saves you from "why did I get this file?" moments.
"GIFs" on X are actually MP4 videos
When someone posts a GIF, X converts it to a small looping MP4 for bandwidth reasons. So when you download one with SnapDown, you correctly get an .mp4 file — that IS the original. If you need a literal .gif, convert the MP4 afterwards with any converter.
Every video exists in multiple bitrates
X encodes each upload into several MP4 variants (typically ~320p, ~480p, ~720p, and 1080p for high-quality sources) and serves the smallest one your connection tolerates. SnapDown lists the variants and defaults to the highest bitrate, so your download is usually sharper than what you saw in the timeline.
x.com, twitter.com, and t.co all work
Paste any of the three URL families — including shortened t.co links from DMs and the old twitter.com format that many apps still generate. For multi-video threads, paste the link of the specific post whose media you want; each post's photos, GIFs, and videos are extracted individually.

Absolutely. Twitter rebranded to X in 2023, but both twitter.com/username/status/123 and x.com/username/status/123 URLs work identically. We also support t.co short links.
No. Only public tweets can be downloaded. If the account is private or protected, Twitter's API doesn't expose the media. You'd need to be logged in and have access.
