Save a Reel on your device
The download is identical everywhere — where the file ends up is not. Pick your device:

In the Instagram app, open the Reel, tap the ••• (or share) button and choose Copy Link.

Open Safari, paste the link into the box above and tap Download.

Safari stores it in Files → Downloads. Open the file, tap the share icon, then Save Video — it's now in your camera roll.
Tip: iOS 17+ can save directly to Photos if you long-press the download button and choose "Save to Photos".
When a download misbehaves
The four situations users actually hit, and what each one means.
"Content not found" error
Why: The Reel was deleted, or the account is private.
Fix: Check the link opens in an incognito window. Private account? Use the Private Downloader. Private Downloader →
Download is 720p, not 1080p
Why: Instagram only stores the resolution the creator uploaded.
Fix: Nothing to fix — you already have the best file Instagram has for this Reel.
Video saves without sound on iPhone
Why: iOS previewed the video stream before it finished merging.
Fix: Wait for the download to complete fully before opening — the final MP4 always includes audio.
"Too many requests" message
Why: Instagram briefly rate-limited your region's traffic.
Fix: Wait 1–2 minutes and try again. Popular evenings (7–11 pm IST) see the most throttling.
